Meet our board members

Phil Honeywood

Phil Honeywood - Chairman (Independent Director)

Phil Honeywood commenced as Chairman and independent director of NECA Education and Careers in 2007. As the former Minister for Tertiary Education and Training in Victoria and a member of Parliament for 18 years, he has chaired many parliamentary committees. Up until late 2011, Phil was CEO of a large private international college responsible for delivering Certificate and Diploma Courses. Currently, Phil holds a full-time position as the National Executive Director of International Education Association of Australia (IEAA). Phil's long history for delivering world class training for young people is testament to his passion and NECA Education and Careers is able to benefit from this.

Barry Fedden

Barry Fedden - Board Member (Independent Director)

Barry Fedden was appointed an independent director in August 2011. He brings strong commercial experience to the Board particularly in the areas of finance and operations management. He was previously the Senior Financial Officer of COINVEST Ltd, the trustee of the Construction Industry Long Service Leave Fund, another not-for-profit organisation that supports the construction industry. Prior to this, Barry worked in a chartered accounting practice (audit, taxation, secretarial) and held senior financial and operational positions in a range of commercial industries.

Michelle Wright

Michelle Wright FAICD - Board Member (Independent Director)

Michelle Wright was appointed as an independent director in November 2014. Michelle's professional background is in corporate law, where she advised major corporate clients and financial institutions. Over the last decade, Michelle has served as non-executive director, Deputy Chair and committee chair on the board of a range of organisations in the education and training, health and financial services sectors. Michelle is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and her board expertise is in strategy, risk, audit and compliance and finance and investment.

Michael Purnell

Michael Purnell – Board Member (NECA Director)

Michael Purnell was appointed as a board member in August 2012. Michael is an experienced General Manager in the electrical contracting industry, with 13 years as General Manager of Nilsen (Vic). Michael is also an experienced Board Director in Commercial and not-for-profit environments as well as experienced General Manager, Regional CFO and Corporate advisor. Specialist areas are finance, construction and change management.

Rebecca Fraser

Rebecca Fraser – Board Director (NECA Director)

Rebecca Fraser was appointed director in January 2015 and is currently Head of HR Corporate and Employee Relations, BAE Systems Australia. Rebecca has worked in a number of senior ER/IR/HR positions in industries including Aviation, Manufacturing, Retail and Higher Education. She brings to the position considerable experience in Human Resources management and leading EBA negotiations, issue/dispute resolution. Amongst her formal qualifications, Rebecca possesses a Bachelor of Arts, a Graduate Diploma in Employee Relations and HRM, and a Masters of Labour Relations Law degree from Melbourne University.
