Our teachers are also trained in mental health first aid to equip them with the tools to support apprentices and students in dealing with challenges they may be facing in or out of the classroom.
Safety is our priority at NECA Education & Careers; in particular, safety on the job site and safety at trade school.
For apprentices in our trade school, ensuring a safe environment for our students is key, especially given our focus on practical tasks in our workshops. Safe behaviour during off-the-job training translates to safe behaviour during on-the-job training, on site, and vice versa. Teachers can help identify anything that risks becoming a bad habit.
As employees, NECA apprentices have free-of-charge access to our employee assistance program (EAP), a dedicated industry careers consultant (ICC), and the support of the NECA E&C return to work coordinator as needed.
NECA Education & Careers engages Carfi for EAP, which provides confidential counselling, at no cost, to the employee.
Carfi provide an EAP that’s developed by a team of qualified professionals experienced in providing personal and work related assistance. They use counselling and coaching techniques that are confidential, short-term and solutions focused.
Each apprentice is assigned a dedicated ICC who will meet with them in regular site visits to make sure they’re making progress on and off site. They can also call on the ICC at any time for guidance.
If a workplace incident does unfortunately occur, our return-to-work coordinator is available to help apprentices through the process, and manage any support or occupational rehabilitation required.
