Do you need more knowledge on how to structure telecommunications infrastructure? Or want to expand your skills to include Cat5/6/7 and service pay TV/smart TVs? We provide open cabling course and structured cabling course in Melbourne. These courses build on the knowledge gained during your Open Registration course to give you greater insight and detail in structuring telecommunication infrastructure and installing, terminating and testing coaxial cabling.

Structured and Coaxial Cabling are two separate endorsements that can be added to your Open Cabling Registration.

The unit of competency (UEENEEF104A) covers knowledge and skills including:

  • Transmission fundamentals of coaxial cable for Radio Frequency (RF) transmission, including Time-Domain Reflectometer (TDR) testing
  • RF modulation, channel assignment, combiners and splitters for multi-channel Entertainment Distribution Systems
  • Signal level measurements
  • Satellite install overview
  • Broad range of coaxial connectors
  • Understanding of structured cabling systems
  • Cable installation for structured cabling
  • To install cabling to support an integrated voice and data system
  • To identify the components of an integrated voice and data system
  • To test the installation and interpret the results of these tests
  • Identify different types of UTP & STP cable
  • Identify and list the component of a structured cabling system
  • Identify and correctly use termination tools
  • Terminate UTP cables correctly
  • Test the installation correctly using the correct test equipment.

You must have permanent residency in Victoria and be one of the following:

  • An Australian citizen (including dual citizens), or
  • A New Zealand citizen (including dual citizens), or
  • An Australian permanent resident, or
