Meet your teacher: Neil Helsdon

Neil has over 50 years of electrical experience, having started his apprenticeship at 15 and remained in the industry ever since.

The majority of Neil’s experience has been in construction, spending 30 years as foreman of a large electrical company. As an apprentice he worked in rail, later working for two years as an electronics technician during national service, and working for two years overseas.

Neil began teaching at NECA Education & Careers in 2006. Having been looking after tradespeople and apprentices for much of his career, Neil was able to adapt to the role.

He enjoys seeing the students pass their classes and get where they want to go, especially when they have overcome a subject they found difficult.

“It’s good to give something back to the industry that was so good to me.”
