Delivery of theory learning is face-to-face at our trade school. or by real-time facilitated online classes. You will need access to a computer and the internet for training both on and off-site. (See E-Learning at NECA Education & Careers)
All practical training and assessment is face-to-face in our trade school.
Assessment methods include questions and tests, practical simulations, and practical assessments.
FIRST YEAR
UEENEEC020B – Participate in electrical work and competency development activities
C020B contains what apprentices need to know on day one. On this first day of school we introduce you to the trade school. We take them through orientation, including Safe Operating Procedures in our workshop, set out our expectations for attending our trade school, explain support resources available, get their commencement training plans signed and make sure they understand their Profiling requirements.
UEENEEE101A – Apply OHS regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
UETTDRRF06 – Perform rescue from a live LV panel
E101A/D001/F106 provides apprentices with all the fundamental knowledge they will need to be safe in the workplace. We cover everything from Safe Work Practices, identifying hazards and risks, mitigating hazards and risks, and completing relevant documentation.
We also ensure all our apprentices complete CPR & Low Voltage Rescue training where they will learn the principles of CPR, LV Panel Rescue & lock out procedures.
UEENEEE104A – Solve problems in DC circuits
E104A provides apprentices with the electrical maths fundamentals like Ohm’s Law, electrical conversions and transposition. It also give apprentices the basic concepts of series and parallel circuits and the impacts of resistors and capacitors through testings using meters and IR testers.
UEENEEE107A – Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
E107A gives apprentices the fundamental knowledge and skills to be able to read and interpret plans, draw basic diagrams, learn all the symbols they are going to need to know and understand switching.
UEENEEE105A – Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
E105A teaches apprentices about all the tools they will use in the trade and their uses, methods for fixing devices and cable types and uses.
UEENEEE102A – Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components
E102A provides apprentices with an understanding of the importance of measuring and marking out accurately, how to interpret different drawings and the correct (and safe) use of hand tools, power tools and different materials.
UEENEEG101A – Solve problems in electromagnetic devices and related circuits
G101A is when the grunt work starts. Apprentices start to gain an understanding of magnetism, electromagnetism, inductors and induction, DC machines and measurement instruments.
UEENEEG106A – Terminate cables, cords and accessories for low voltage circuits
G106A sees apprentices learn everything they are going to need to know about cables. They will learn terms, materials, arrangement, size and types as well as different types of termination and terminating.
They also get the opportunity to complete cable installations so they can put theory into practice.
SECOND YEAR
UEENEEK142A – Apply environmentally and sustainable procedures in the energy sector
K142A provides apprentices with an appreciation of sustainable work practices, sustainable power generation, understanding the carbon footprint and how it can be reduced, and the future of sustainability.
We partner with our friends down the road at CERES Community Environment Park to give our apprentices hands on exposure to all things renewable.
UEENEEG006A – Solve problems in single and three phase low voltage machines
G006A starts building on the foundations and we teach apprentices about transformers, induction motors, AC machines, synchronous machines, alternators and generators.
UEENEEE137A – Document and apply measures to control OHS risks
E137A reiterates the importance of safety on site by providing apprentices with further training on workplace hazards, risk control measures, and documentation. We also reiterate the importance of lockout, isolation and tagging.
HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
UETTDRRF06 – Perform rescue from a live LV panel (refresher)
Here is the point where we make sure all the apprentices that attend our trade school stay current with their CPR/LVR Accreditation and run a refresher course to ensure they are up to date with the principles of CPR, LV Panel Rescue & Lock out procedures.
UEENEEG102A – Solve problems in low voltage AC circuits
G102A is one of the most important theory units (although we think all the units are important). This unit covers Pythagoras’ Theorem, phasor diagrams (single & 3 phase), harmonics and effects and fault loop impedance.
UEENEEG033A – Solve problems in single and three phase low voltage electrical apparatus and circuits
G033A is where we teach apprentices about heating and lighting. We cover everything from LEDs and dimmers through to fire protection & emergency lighting.
UEENEEG063A – Arrange circuits, control and protection for general electrical installations
G063A is where we start to move into switchboard design, wiring and arrangement. Making sure each apprentice has a sound understanding of MEN systems, earth fault loop, fault protection and the testing and safety fundamentals that go along with it!
UEENEEG108A – Trouble-shoot and repair faults in low voltage electrical apparatus and circuits
Following on from switchboard design and installation we move into fault finding and mandatory testing. In this fault finding & testing unit we also teach the apprentices all about fault finding on monitors and control circuits and electrical installations.
THIRD YEAR
UEENEEG109A – Develop and connect electrical control circuits
G109A teaches the apprentices about designing and programing PLCs, contactors, relays, control devices, motor control and braking. This builds on their knowledge of drawing, reading and interpreting wiring diagrams and circuit drawings.
UEENEEG107A – Select wiring systems and cables for low voltage general electrical installations
G107A builds on the apprentices’ knowledge of cables by teaching them max demand, current carrying capacity, voltage drop, fault loop impedance and switchboard/metering.
UEENEEF102A – Install and maintain cabling for multiple access to telecommunication services
UEENEEF104A – Install and modify performance data communication copper cabling
F102A/F104A is where we teach apprentices everything they need to know about data, communications and structured cabling. They will cover everything from plans, cable types, installation, termination and testing/fault finding.
During these units apprentices will complete the assessment against the 50 ACMA regulatory questions and be provided with the paperwork required to complete their Cablers Registration (Open) with the structured cabling (Cat5 &Cat6) & coaxial endorsements through ACRS.
UEENEEG103A – Install low voltage wiring and accessories
UEENEEG104A – Install appliances, switchgear and associated accessories for low voltage electrical installations
UEENEEG105A – Verify compliance and functionality of low voltage general electrical installations
These final three units provide apprentices with a summary of what they have learnt including testing, maximum demand, standards and codes, transformers, protection, earthing, series and parallel circuits. Learning also covers all safety and paperwork requirements when completing an electrical installation.
Students that complete these units are then able to move on and sit their LEA Exams. But we do recommend that they complete a tutorial prior to sitting the exam.
HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
UETTDRRF06 – Perform rescue from a live LV panel (refresher)
Here is the point where we again make sure all the apprentices that attend our trade school stay current with their CPR/LVR Accreditation and run a refresher course to ensure they are up to date with the principles of CPR, LV Panel Rescue & Lock out Procedures.
UEENEEC020B – Participate in electrical work and competency development activities
C020B Day 2 is the last day of the trade school and it is an opportunity for the apprentices to close everything off, sign off on their training plans and complete outstanding profiling cards. If apprentices are up to date with all their schooling and profiling they will be issued with the paperwork required to sit their LEAs.
