As advised in our communications last week, NECA Education & Careers has continued to review our trade school operations under current COVID-19 restrictions. In doing so we are trying to balance the risks of the Delta variant to the health and wellbeing of our staff and students against the disruption to student training. What has become clear over the past few days is that the current restrictions will remain in place for weeks, if not months. It’s also clear that the State Government policy position has changed from one of eradication to containment and ultimately living with the virus.
Given these factors we have decided that from Monday 13 September:
- We will now conduct some final theory assessments remotely online. This will enable us to complete students in current units and commence them in new units and allow us to continue to deliver training.
- We will commence bringing in small numbers of apprentice classes each day to campus to conduct practical activities and assessments.
Students, you must log into iConnect to view your timetable https://iconnect.necaeducation.com.au/login/index.php – this shows the timetable for every apprentice class for the next 3 weeks commencing from Monday 13 September. The timetable for the following 3 weeks will be released in due in course.
We will deliver as much training as we possibly can, both remotely and on campus, while abiding by government restrictions. We cannot bring everyone back to campus as doing so would breach those restrictions and be too big a health risk. We do understand the frustrations of apprentices and employers; however, the COVID restrictions require all of us to make compromises. The electrical apprenticeship course is a mix of theory and practical, where students must complete one unit before they can commence the next due to pre-requisite rules. Our objective is to train electricians who can gain their A Grade and work safely safely and competently. You don’t get those outcomes if you cut too many corners.
Staying COVID safe
We understand that some apprentices (and their employers) may be reluctant to physically attend campus and we will have to reschedule those who choose not to attend. QR code check-ins and the wearing of facemasks at all times will be mandatory, while the campus is continuously cleaned throughout each day. Facemasks and hand sanitiser are freely available throughout the campus. Class breaks will be staggered and measures put in place to minimise contact between different classes. A copy of our COVID-19 Management Plan can be found on our website. A reminder that any apprentice who is feeling unwell, or is required to isolate and/or get tested because they have attended an exposure site, must not attend campus.
Authorised Provider and Authorised Worker Permits
Apprentices attending trade school are required to hold an Authorised Worker Permit signed by their employer and listing NECA Education and Careers Ltd as the training institution. Download and complete a permit here.
