Each year the Victorian Training Awards recognise the achievements of individuals and organisations within the TAFE and training sector in Victoria. In 2019 NECA Education & Careers was recognised as standing alongside the best training providers in Victoria.

On Friday 6 September NECA Education & Careers staff celebrated at Crown Palladium alongside the finalists for the 16 award categories. In addition to training providers there are awards for individuals, employers, industry collaboration, and the Lynne Kosky Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The function started with the Welcome Reception, where NECA Education & Careers CEO Phil Green was presented with the Finalist certificate by Simon Hollingsworth, former Deputy Secretary.

Then the celebrations really began with the room was buzzing with excitement as student performers from the vocational education sector entertained the guests.

The Hon. Gayle Tierney MP, Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education spoke with pride of the achievements of the finalists and the sector in general. “It’s an opportunity for us to showcase the best of the best in vocational education and training. It means that we can come together, gather and celebrate the achievements of so many people who are involved in the sector.” Minister Tierney said.

The category of Small Training Provider of the Year recognises providers offering a specific range of training and less than 50 qualifications. Other finalists offered training in community services and disability sectors, and automotive and engineering.

“It really is a credit to everyone to get this far,” Phil said, reflecting on being named a finalist.

Regardless of the result, the dedication to training electricians for the past 28 years was clear, especially in the collective effort of our award submission. Staff from across the business had gathered evidence of our commitment to innovation in training before Phil led a presentation to an interview panel.

The experience as a whole reinforced why we do what we do at NECA Education & Careers and encouraged us to continue to provide the highest quality training.
