This supportive, hands-on course helps you build real skills, confidence, and a pathway into an electrical apprenticeship. The course can prepare you for many roles, including apprentice electrician, apprentice refrigeration and air-conditioning mechanic and more.
In an all female cohort you’ll be guided by an experienced mentor while gaining practical knowledge to kickstart your future in trades.

Course details
In this course we cover the following units of study:
- CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry
- UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
- UEECD0008 Carry out preparatory energy sector work activities
- UEECD0009 Carry out routine work activities in an energy sector environment
- UEECD0019 Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utility industry components
- UEECD0020 Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment
- UEECD0021 Identify and select components, accessories and materials for energy sector work activities
- UEECD0038 Provide solutions and report on routine electrotechnology problems
- UEECD0046 Solve problems in single-path circuits
- UEECD0051 Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications
- UEECD0052 Use of routine equipment plant technologies in an energy sector environment
- UEERE0021 Provide basic sustainable energy solutions for energy management in residential premises
This hands-on course is structured to meet national training package requirements and industry expectations.
The theory component is delivered in structured classroom sessions by qualified trainers and includes guided instructions, group discussions, practical activities and problem-solving exercises.
The hands-on practical training is delivered with the NECA Training Trailer – a purpose-built mobile learning environment equipped with industry-standard electrotechnology training tools and equipment. The trailer enables students to complete essential practical assessments across core electrotechnology units, including wiring, testing, fault finding, installation practices, safe isolation procedures, and the use of industry tools and equipment.
Students will also have access to the NECA Learning Management System (LMS) – Sparky – to undertake theory assessments and access learning materials. Laptops will be provided during training sessions.

An electrical pre-apprenticeship course provides a strong foundation in electrical trades, helping individuals gain practical skills, knowledge, and a taste of the industry before committing to a formal apprenticeship. It can improve your chances of securing an apprenticeship and provide a competitive advantage in the job market.
At the end of the course, students who have successfully completed this qualification may choose to seek employment as an apprentice electrician and undertake the UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.
Students will be supplied with learning materials and resources including:
- A laptop – provided to students by NECA E&C during classes
- Access to the NECA Learning Management System (Sparky)
- A comprehensive Learner Companion Guide for each unit of competency
- A textbook and Classroom Assessment Workbook for each unit of competency
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
This course is fee-free to eligible applicants.
To be eligible for a fee-free place you:
- must be a resident of Tasmania
- must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or hold an eligible Visa
- must not be currently studying in the school system (up to year 12) or undertaking a traineeship or apprenticeship
- cannot be enrolled in another government funded training course
