UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker is a one-day, nationally recognised course designed for non-electrical workers who carry out work near live electrical infrastructure.
This practical course provides the skills, knowledge, and authorisation pathway required to meet Tasmanian legislative and safety requirements when working near overhead powerlines or underground electrical cables.
Course description
This accredited course delivers UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus (non-electrical worker).
It equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to:
- Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
- Identify high- and low-voltage overhead and underground assets
- Understand the effects of electricity on the human body
- Apply Safe Approach Distances (SADs) for people, plant, tools and equipment
- Implement effective risk management strategies
- Perform the safety observer role within a safe system of work
- Follow emergency response procedures and rescue protocols
- Recognise and manage step and touch potential hazards
- Comply with relevant workplace health and safety regulations
On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for UETDREL006, enabling them to apply for authorisation as to undertake the safety observer role within designated electrical work zones.

This training is delivered as a one-day face-to-face course at locations across South, North and Northwest Tasmania.
Training combines classroom theory with practical, site-based activities.

- Safety helmet
- Safety boots
- Safety glasses
- Hi-vis clothing
