Intakes occur all year, so whether you are looking for a career change, finishing year 12 or spent some time travelling, you can start this 12-week course any time of year.

You will also learn additional, highly sought-after practical skills like:

Reading plans and marking out the electrical installation
Identifying and ordering products for the job
Installation and terminate electrical equipment
Installing cable tray
Running catenary wire
Wiring and fitting off socket outlets (power points) and light switches
Completing quality tests on your installation

Pre-Apprenticeships have intakes all year and you can apply at any time. Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Intake Date indicates the day you are required to attend the Pre-Training review and Information Session. Please note: Course commencement is subject to numbers. Please refer to our refund policy for more information. You will be required to pay a $100 deposit to process your application. If you're successful this will be taken off your resources & amenities fee. If unsuccessful, this amount will be refunded to you.

Course Information:

This course aims to prepare you for an apprenticeship in the Electrotechnology industry and gives you the basic skills to make you job ready.

Electrical theory, mathematics and general practical skills are taught within the course, along with how to interpret electrical drawings. You will gain a good appreciation of the basic tools and equipment an electrician uses on the job. Electrical safety plays a major part within the course.

Selection Criteria:

RTO Admission Requirements

Applicants are required to attend a Pre-Training Review, which includes an interview to assess their suitability for the course. This review will cover:

Confirmation that a Harrison Assessment has been completed with a score of approximately 80% vocational suitability (see information below)
Completion of a Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment to confirm an applicant meets the required skill levels for training
Confirmation that an applicant can use a computer/laptop and the internet
Completion of a separate Maths Aptitude Test that will be used to inform them of any additional learning they may need to complete if they wish to progress to UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

Harrison Assessment (Vocational Suitability Assessment)

Before an application in this course can progress, applicants must complete the Harrison Assessment which assesses vocational suitability in the electrical field. For more information about the Harrison Assessment click here. (We will send a link once you apply for the course).

Training is delivered four days per week over eleven weeks. You will not be required to attend class for more than 8 hours a day.

Delivery of training is face-to-face at our trade school. Theory assessments are completed online and we will provide you with a laptop to use at each class. All practical assessments are conducted in our workshop or equipped classroom. Assessment methods include questions and tests, practical simulations and practical assessments.

^For eligible individuals this training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding.

If you do not meet the above criteria for free tuition and wish to complete the Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) as a full fee paying student you must still meet the selection criteria.

NECA Education & Careers advises that accessing Skills First Program entitlement may impact your ability to further government subsidised training.

A full Statement of Fees will be provided to applicants at their Pre-Training Review.
