The team at NECA Education & Careers is looking forward to maintaining the high standard of support we offer to people throughout their careers and building on the successes of 2019. Notable achievements included a record 19 Apprentice classes commencing in our RTO and being a finalist for Small Training Provider of the Year at the Victorian Training Awards.
The Australian vocational education and training statistics report VET student outcomes 2019 also reflected well on NECA Education & Careers as a trade school.
Of graduates at NECA Education & Careers:
92% were employed or enrolled in further study after training
90.1% were satisfied with the overall quality of their training (compared to 88.1% overall)
95.5% would recommend their training provider (compared to 88.9% overall)
Additional Learning Support
We have created the new position of Learning Support Teacher within the training team. Deborah Mullen has joined NECA Education & Careers to assist in identifying barriers to individual students’ learning and support them with a variety of learning strategies.
Improved Automation Training Materials
In conjunction with NHP, we are improving our automation training materials. This will involve sourcing new Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs), Variable Speed Drives, Safety Relay Devices (SRDs), and IoT interface models.
The aim of this initiative is to meet current industry best practices – imagine a NECA Education & Careers student controlling a motor with their smartphone!
As part of our commitment to excellence in education we have been looking beyond paper-based learning and assessments. In 2019 we developed and piloted our E-Learning Platform. This will allow students to get their results immediately and save time that our teachers would spend marking assessments. The first classes of 2020 to incorporate the full E-Learning Platform for Apprentices and Pre-Apprentices are currently underway, with students embracing the new system.
The E-Learning Platform consists of our Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Students have also reported that our Learning Management System (LMS) is an improvement on systems they have used at other institutions. Students have access to a Wi-Fi network and a dedicated helpdesk.
Telecommunications Traineeship Grows With the Industry
2019 marked one year of NECA Education & Careers providing specific staffing support to businesses in voice, data, audio visual, security and related fields as the telecommunications industry expands. Going into 2020 the candidates for our Telecommunications Traineeship are going from strength to strength.
Women in Trade
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting women in the electrical industry, we currently employ 19 female apprentices, in line with our targets.
In 2019 several staff joined a cohort of female apprentices to represent NECA Education & Careers at the Women in Trades Reception hosted at Government House. The apprentices had the chance to meet other women in a range of trade industries and the Governor of Victoria.
Apprentice Management Program
Our Apprentice Management Program is gaining a lot of traction, with many businesses realising the benefits of partnering with NECA Education & Careers to manage all aspects of the apprenticeship.
Our 2020 Project Management courses will commence in late March, with consistently positive feedback from participants in the 2019 intake.
The Certificate IV in Project Management Practice and Diploma of Project Management are aimed at people of various experience levels completing project work in the electrical industry. Completed over 11 and 12 months respectively, participants get a lot of time to apply what they learn in their workplace.
These are just a few of the areas that have a lot in store for NECA Education & Careers in 2020 – we hope you join us along the way!
